A dirty fuel filter can cause the fuel pump to use 120 watts, 60 more than normal. A dirty fuel filter is a common cause for a voltage regulator to fail on a fuel-injected bike.

At average rpm the alternator will have around 330 Watts output (375 Watts peak at 5,500 rpm).
Deduct all the OEM electrical requirements such as lights, ECM, EFI, Wattage needed to charge the battery (ca. 60 W) and I calculate the remaining wattage to our avail is around 160W or ca. 13 Amperes. That is industry standard, considering the Goldwing’s alternator supplies only a tad more (450 Watts). If you keep these basic numbers in mind when adding accessories, you will be fine. The stator output on the C50 is only 375 watts @ 5000 rpm.

The stock lighting uses 70 watts to power basic lighting (head lamp, marker lights, tail light, indicator leds) with a maximum usage of 165 watts (high beam, brake light, all 4 turn signals, indicator leds).

The charging system uses an average of 144 watts and peaks at 155 watts. (15.5v @ 10 amps).

When you add all the potential power draws on the bike, you have very little wattage left over to power accesories. (conservatively, you have around 55 watts left during peak demand.)

Your bike does not always operate at peak demand, but it is possible to overload the electrical system by adding too many accessories.

I added 50 watt driving lights to my C50. The lights are powered directly from the battery, but controlled through a relay that is wired into the headlight bucket.

I recently replaced the 50 watt bulbs with 20 watt bulbs after doing the math I outlined above. I was overloading the peak demand for my charging system by over 45 watts.

The common result from adding too many accesories is a burned stator/voltage regulator.

If you want to add additional lighting, be judicious. Find ways to lower the power demand elsewhere on the bike before you start adding an additional load.
